SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A cupcakes and condoms event was held on Saturday at Savannah State University. The goal - to spread awareness to the dangers of HIV.
The Red Pump organization targets women and girls for their events. According to them women make up about 25 percent of the AIDS population. Less than half have that virus under control.
Saturday was all about talking about a touchy subject and enjoying a dessert.
"The goal is to raise awareness about the impact of HIV and the epidemic as well as educate our attendees in hopes that they will go out and get tested and know their status," said Skyy Banks, Program Director.
Banks says addressing these issues is critical to achieving an HIV and AIDS free generation.
