POOLER, GA (WTOC) - New commercial development will add to the growing city of Pooler.

City leaders broke ground Tuesday at 10 a.m. for the 32,000 square foot retail shopping development, The Commons in The Village at Savannah Quarters on Blue Moon Crossing - located near I-16 and Pooler Parkway.

Construction is already underway on the new Publix, but this adjacent complex will also include a coffee shop which we know now will be Savannah Coffee Roasters as well as a cycling center for fitness and much more.

"Everything that we have in our Liberty Street store, we will have right here in Pooler. We're excited about that. So, the fresh coffee, our top 10 coffee in the USA, will be served here in the cafe," said Lori Collins, Owner, Savannah Coffee Roasters.

WTOC spoke to the executive director of the Pooler Chamber of Commerce who says this will bring new options to the area.

Pooler Mayor Mike Lamb says he's heard the concerns of people about traffic.

"Traffic will pick up and we will address those issues. But as you can see, as you pull in here, red lights are already going up getting prepared to start running. Those red lights will make sure that people coming in and out of here It will be done safely," Mayor Lamb said. "We continue to get some great things coming to our city. Tanger was a great thing. We've had movie theaters, we've had staking rinks, bowling alleys, and you know, so many nice things have come, but we've also had traffic come. Sometimes there's good and bad - and traffic being bad."

They're still in the infant stage but they tell WTOC they want to have a roof on this development sometime in the first quarter of next year.
