Mobile Food Bank coming to Effingham County Tuesday
EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - America's Second Harvest Food Bank of Coastal Georgia is preparing to bring food to families in Effingham County this week.
The mobile food pantry is coming to the Effingham County Recreation Department in Springfield on Tuesday, Aug. 14.
From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., low-income families can stop by the Recreation Department to pick up food thanks to a partnership between Second Harvest and the United Way.
Food items to be distributed Tuesday include canned good, frozen foods, and fresh produce.
"We've had a really big initiative over the last several years to try and provide fresh produce and things like that. Fresh produce can be very expensive, so we're trying to make sure they have healthy items and things they can use to make meals with," Second Harvest Director Mary Jane Crouch said.
Tuesday's food pantry is free, but you must be an Effingham County resident. Organizers will ask to see a picture I.D. to show proof of residency.
Crouch says Second Harvest partners with several United Way offices to bring the mobile food pantry to other counties. Check with your local United Way office to find the next date.
