GSU players to meet fans in Savannah Friday
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Georgia Southern Eagles take the field at Paulson Stadium next Saturday, Sept. 1, for the 2018 season. But, until then, there's going to be a lot of excitement on Friday, Aug. 24, at the Armstrong Campus of Georgia Southern University.
The GSU players will be using the soccer fields at the Armstrong Campus for practice.
Once the team goes through several plays, they'll take time to meet their fans for a special meet and greet during GSU's Fan Fest.
Instead of driving to Statesboro, GSU is bringing Fan Fest to Savannah. Fans can meet their favorite players, grab autographs and participate in some tailgating activities.
With the recent merger of Georgia Southern University and Armstrong State University, school officials say the event will also be a good opportunity for some of GSU's newest fans to learn about the university's football traditions.
"The freshmen class coming in is the first class to come in as Georgia Southern Eagles, so they're excited on all three of our campuses. It's part of introducing them, just like we would do in Statesboro," Vice President of Operations for GSU's Armstrong and Liberty Campus Dr. Christopher Curtis said.
The tailgating festivities will kick off around 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon with food trucks, corn hole, and other activities. University employees will also be on hand selling Eagles gear and tickets for the upcoming season.
At 6:00 p.m., the Eagles will practice with the meet and greet following after that.
The event is free to the public and parking is available at the Sports Center Parking Lot on the Armstrong Campus.
