BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) - New teachers always bring a lot of enthusiasm to the classroom, but this week's WTOC Top Teacher has been in training all of her life.
Kaidy English likes to keep her 3rd Grade class moving.
"They are used to sitting in front of a screen. The whole time, whenever they leave, I am competing against a screen, I have to be just as interesting as Fortnite or Minecraft. I have to be just as entertaining, and what can I do to keep their attention," English said.
English teaches at Mattie Lively Elementary School in Statesboro. She grew up in Swainsboro where her mother was a teacher.
"From the time I was younger than these kids, I grew up in the classroom," she said. "I was there when the teachers were there, every single time. I kind of grew up to be a teacher. I didn't have any choice, it's always what I wanted to do since I was a little kid."
English says she loves this age group.
"Every single day in here, something happens that makes my day," she said. "It could be anything. One little hug or anything one of the kids said."
English has only been teaching a couple of years and says she's learning just as much from her students as they are from her.
"I am interacting with them and I am hoping to make that last impact, and I am learning from them just as hard, so it's kind of a cool little balance where we are learning and growing together," she said.
