WTOC EDITORIAL SALUTE

America's Second Harvest, Coastal Georgia's food bank, got a major assist when they visited an area Food Lion store this week, for the presentation of a 43-thousand-dollar grant by representatives from Kraft Foods.  Financial contributions of this magnitude are the key to expanded services for this Savannah-based food bank, which also now plans to increase opportunities and out-reach through its Kid's Café program.  Huge thanks to Kraft Foods for this extremely helpful local contribution.

Three veteran Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department officers recently received well-deserved promotions.  Sergeant Todd Rhodes has been promoted to lieutenant, star-corporal Joe Kujawa to sergeant, and Steven Snyder has moved up to  star-corporal on the force.  Our congratulations to these fine officers, along with  gratitude from the communities they serve.

And finally this week, several Chatham County sheriff's deputies received recognition for completing "primary deputy" program training, aimed at increasing security skills among those deputies assigned to courtroom duty.  This initiative is in direct response to the past deadly courtroom shooting in Atlanta.  Our thanks to these deputies, and those who'll follow, for successfully completing this important additional training, designed to keep our courtrooms, and all those within, safe and secure.
