Arrests made in Chatham Co. during St. Patrick’s Day weekend
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Law enforcement was out this weekend working to keep you safe in Savannah for the 200th St. Patrick’s Day parade and celebrations that followed.
Looking at the Chatham County Detention Center’s 72 hour bookings, it appears that there were at least 54 DUI arrests this weekend and several arrests for disorderly conduct and public drunkeness.
That’s taking into account arrests from many area agencies including police departments in Savannah, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Garden City, Thunderbolt, Chatham County, as well as the Georgia State Patrol.
In addition to the Savannah Police Department being out in full force this weekend, 200 extra officers from outside agencies were also out to help patrol. That included the Georgia State Patrol’s nighthawks, as well as HEAT units.
Chatham Emergency Services also responded to at least 50 calls for service this weekend which they say is on par with what things looked like last year.
We’re expecting to get a more full look at citation and arrest numbers from the Savannah Police Department at some point within the next several days.
We’ll keep you updated when we learn more.
