Beaufort County deputy, girlfriend arrested after shots fired at apartment

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - A Beaufort County deputy and his girlfriend were arrested Friday night after shots were fired during a domestic violence incident, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Evan Sigelnski was arrested and charged with domestic violence in the third degree.

Kierstin Griffith, the girlfriend of Sigelnski, was also arrested and charged with domestic violence in the first degree and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Both were arrested Friday and released on bond Saturday, according to jail records.

According to police, a gun was fired during the incident and someone was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police did not release the extent of the injuries, identification of the person, description of the injuries or who fired the weapon.

Deputy Sigelnski was off-duty at the time of the incident, the sheriff’s office said. He has since been placed on paid administrative leave pending the results of the internal investigation by the sheriff’s office.

The incident is being investigated by the Beaufort Police Department. Both criminal cases are being handled by the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
