SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Money should be on the way to the pockets of Georgia families in the coming weeks, thanks to an estimated one billion dollar tax rebate.

At a press conference Monday, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp talked about when you can expect to see your portion of that money.

Each family could receive up to $500. Single individuals could be eligible for up to $250.

Governor Kemp said those checks should be starting to hit peoples’ accounts pretty soon.

We were talking to him Monday about the highlights of last year’s budget along with what people should know about the upcoming one, and he specifically mentioned these rebates as one of the things folks should be on the lookout for.

“It’s in the works so it should be for families that paid taxes last year they’ll get a dollar-for-dollar rebate up to $500 depending on how much tax they paid. Department of revenue has that in the works, and you know we’ve done this before so it will probably be a lot smoother of a process than it was two-and-a-half, three years ago,” said the Governor.

His office tells us the state Department of Revenue is projecting the first disbursements will begin around the end of May or early June.

Again, that could be up to $500 in your pocket now just a few weeks from now.
