SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Cigna Health confirmed to WTOC Friday that Memorial Health facilities are now out of network for certain Cigna plans after the two sides did not reach a contract agreement by the deadline.

Cigna said HCA Georgia, part of one of the nation’s largest for-profit hospital systems, sought contract changes that would increase health care costs for patients in the Savannah area.

Cigna said individual and family plans are not impacted.

Customers received advance notice of the change

Cigna said customers received advance notice so they could understand their coverage options ahead of the effective date.

“Continuity of care provisions are designed to help minimize disruption for patients actively receiving treatment, with the goal of supporting patients rather than placing them in the middle of negotiations. Eligible patients may continue care during a defined transition period, supported by care coordination, case management, and 24/7 customer support,” shared Cigna.

Cigna said while the contract has expired, discussions may continue, and both parties can still reach a future agreement.

We have reached out to Memorial Health and HCA for comment, WTOC is waiting to hear back.

Memorial Health says released the following statement Thursday, before the deadline passed.

“As of now, there have been no disruptions to patient care. We regularly negotiate with insurance companies to determine agreed in-network rates. We have been negotiating with Cigna Georgia for several months and, as of today, we have not yet reached an agreement. We are committed to reaching a fair and equitable agreement, so Cigna Georgia plan members may continue to enjoy the quality care and convenient access they expect at our hospital.”
