SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Savannah African Art Museum will host its annual Juneteenth celebration Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The free event takes place at 201 E. 37th St. Alisa Evans-Newsome, executive director of the museum, said the celebration honors the past through art, storytelling and shared experiences.

Queen Janiqwa Nganga will perform a libation ceremony to begin the celebration.

The event includes free self-guided museum tours, crafts provided by Scribbles Art Studio and local vendors selling African clothing, jewelry and books.

Attendees can view the completed “Telling Your Story” community project from last year’s celebration.

The celebration is held in the spirit of Sankofa, a West African symbol that emphasizes learning from the past to inform the future.
