SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The play heard around the nation where Michigan was granted an extra second on the clock before pulling off the impossible with a 47-yard hail mary to win the game.

Is putting one second back on the clock the right call? Some argue the clock had struck zero prior to the football hitting the defenders hands marking it incomplete. NCAA and Big Ten stated that the Western Michigan defender touched the ball while out of bouncds with one second remaining. Regardless, Michigan pulled off the impossible.

There’s actually a Savannah tie to the situation as well. Running back Donovan Johnson is in his second season with the Maze and Blue. The Savannah native played for Calvary Day before transfering to IMG Academy.

Donovan was on the sideline while the last two plays unfolded and spoke with WTOC Sports Director Zach Fox about the moment. “Seeing the ball go up and know that he’s got to go make this play. The play was made and it was crazy. Everyone rushed the field. At the end of the day our coaches coach us up every day to make plays on the field. That whole moment (fans rushing the field) for me was a little big. A win is a win, that’s how I see it, a win is a win.”

Michigan now prepares to host Oklahoma on Satruday, September 12th at noon.
