COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Alan Wilson reflected on the midterm election and the transition from attorney general to governor, emphasizing plans to use the office to reshape state government over the next four years.

Wilson contrasted the role of the state attorney general with the governor’s role, acknowledging that while the attorney general handles a narrow portfolio of issues, the governor holds significant influence across the state.

He said the executive office’s public reach the greatest asset in driving policy.

“It is the singular most powerful office when it comes to a bully pulpit,” Wilson said. “I mean, we command the microphone of the state. We can move public opinion. We can move legislation when the governor gets behind it. And I do believe that there needs to be a better rebalancing of the three branches of government. I intend to do that as governor over the next four years.”

In remarks reflecting on the campaign, Wilson also acknowledged the effort required to win the seat and recognized his opponents in the race.

“So to the men and women who competed for this job, who aren’t able to stand here tonight, I want to thank you,” Wilson said.
