17th annual Poker Run benefits Georgia youth homes

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -Motorcyclists hit the streets on Sunday morning for the 17th annual Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Poker Run.
Riders roared away from the Sheriff’s Office to benefit the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes.
The facility houses abandoned and neglected children, and CCSO buys and delivers Christmas gifts for them every year.
The Sheriff hoped to have 500 bikes in Sunday’s run, and local motorcycle groups say it was a no brainer to participate.
“We’ve got a motorcycle community here in Savannah that is very giving," said Jim Williams with the Christian Motorcyclists Association of Savannah. "They’re very supportive, and they do ride for each other very often. Right now there are a lot of events going on in the spring and a lot of charities and a lot of good people riding for good causes right now.”
“All of the money we make in this run is spent right back in this county,” said Sheriff John Wilcher. "We buy the Christmas for the kids here, and we take it to them. We don’t have any overhead or anything.
The Sheriff hoped to raise $30,000 dollar to buy those gifts. A final dollar count should be available soon.
