First Alert: Icy roads remain an issue, warmer air on the horizon
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - We continue with our First Alert Weather Days through Saturday morning.
Black ice will remain an issue this morning as many untreated roads have frozen over.
Temperatures are well-below freezing with lows in the teens and 20s! A coat, hat and gloves will all be needed if you have to get outside this morning. That being said, travel is not advised this morning.
Some communities will approach record lows around daybreak. The record in Savannah is 19 degrees set in 1960. Temperatures will remain below freezing until around lunchtime, preventing melting through the first portion of our Thursday. This afternoon will be slightly warmer than yesterday with highs near 40 degrees. We’ll drop back below the freezing mark after sunset, as black ice is set to form again overnight into Friday morning.
Friday will be another First Alert Weather Day. Icy spots are set to form again as temperatures drop into the 20s Friday morning. We’ll climb above freezing around 10AM on Friday with highs in the mid to upper 40s. This will allow more of the ice to melt throughout the day. If you have plans Friday evening, please be careful. Icy spots will be possible once again as freezing temperatures return after 8PM.
Saturday is the last of our First Alert Weather Days. A few icy spots will still be possible with lows in the 20s. We’ll see mostly sunny skies on Saturday with highs in the lower 50s. Roadway conditions improve though the weekend with highs in the 50s and lower 60s on Sunday afternoon.
Monday morning starts out much warmer with lows closer to 40 degrees. There is a slight chance of rain on Monday with highs in the mid 50s. Warmer weather continues to build in mid-week, with highs in the 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday!
