EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The Effingham County Health Department is encouraging residents to say “boo to the flu” during a walk-in vaccination event Thursday, Oct. 29.

Flu shots will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the health department, located at 802 U.S. Highway 119 South in Springfield. The clinic will close for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.

No appointment is needed, and Halloween costumes are encouraged.

The health department accepts many insurance plans that cover flu vaccinations at no cost. Free vaccines are available for children without insurance coverage, and low-cost options are available for uninsured adults.

Health officials recommend an annual flu vaccination for everyone ages 6 months and older. They say vaccination is especially important for adults older than 65, children younger than 2, pregnant people and those with underlying conditions such as asthma or chronic lung disease.

According to the department, protection takes about two weeks to develop after vaccination. Officials encourage residents to get vaccinated before flu activity peaks and ahead of holiday gatherings.

Anyone unable to attend can schedule a flu shot during regular clinic days by calling 912-754-6484.
