POOLER, GA (WTOC) - A popular Mexican food chain in Pooler has temporarily closed their doors for service.

The Jalapenos restaurant on Morgan's Corner voluntarily shut down after several people claimed they were extremely sick after their meal. Dozens of posts and comments on social media read that people were immediately nauseous after walking out of the restaurant over the weekend, but restaurant staff say it's not their food.

The restaurant said in a statement Monday, "we have not found a link with any foodborne illness and our food at this time."

Neither the health department nor the city forced them to close. Jalapenos voluntarily shut down to do a "specialized and thorough decontamination of the facility," taking anywhere from 24-72 hours. Even though the restaurant has been under open fire online, we watched customer after customer still turning up to eat, disappointed when they had to make alternate dinner plans.

The restaurant is now in coordination with the Chatham County Health Department during an ongoing investigation to find out what might have caused a widespread illness - if anything at all.
